Tour of Duty Army (ToD Army) Scheme Overview

Tour of Duty army is a proposal to attract some of the best talents of the country and expose them to military life. This course is set up by the Indian Army and will help candidates improve self-confidence, teamwork, initiative, stress management, innovation, and a sense of responsibility. Army spokesman Colonel Aman Anand says the scheme will launch with limited seats (100 officers and 1000 jawans). If the Indian army feels this venture is successful, the vacancies will be increased and the scheme will continue.

This proposal has been made with a shift in the idea of a permanent job in the armed forces. The idea approaches a different perspective where candidates will serve in the army for a temporary period of time (3 years). You can also consider it as an internship for 3 years for better understanding. As the employment rate in India is high, more candidates will be given jobs through this scheme. And as we all know, young Indians are filled with a feeling of nationalism and patriotism towards the country. But being a soldier during the ToD period does not guarantee a full-time job in the Indian Army after the completion of the period of  Tour of Duty Army.

In the three years of experience, candidates will be disciplined just as any other army officer is. There are a lot of blood, sweat, hard work, dirt, and tears that flow in to make a soldier.

Period of Scheme of Tour of Duty Army

Candidates who join the Tour of Duty army will be provided training for a period of 1 year. Post this training period, candidates can serve the nation as an Indian Arny soldier/ officer for a period of three years. This training will be conducted at the Officers’ Training Academy (OTA) for Short Service Commission (SSC) cadre. The officers who complete their training here are not completely fit to be in the Indian Army yet. They are just molded and provided an experience like any other students of the Indian Military Academy (IMA).
