Gate Exam Pattern:

It is very important to know the exact pattern of the examination

  • The exam duration is three hours the total marks are 100 and each student has to appear according to the branch.
  • The exam paper consists of one mark as well as two marks questions along with a few Aptitude questions.
  • It is advisable for the students to kindly go through the information brochure of the exam in order to clear the doubt about the eligibility for the particular Exam paper.
  • You must have proper information about the latest pattern and syllabus.

Syllabus for Gate Exam

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an exam having a vast syllabus. Almost four years of the syllabus are asked in a single examination paper. So before starting preparation, it is highly recommended to understand the syllabus.

  • Candidates should prepare a timetable that will give them a scope to revise the pre-learned topics as well as cover the leftover syllabus.
  • It is advisable for the candidates to cover all the topics present in the syllabus of the entrance.
  • It is recommended to solve five to ten years of previous year question papers which are very helpful to know the exam pattern and you can follow those to know the structure of the questions that are asked in the previous entrance and you can follow that pattern. It will give you an idea regarding the type of questions that you can expect in the GATE exam.
  • Candidates should know the important topics in the syllabus based on the weightage of marks.

Gate Study Materials:

  • Standard reference books are a good source of course. It is a very good thing to follow the standard books and if you are okay with self-preparing and you have ample time in hand prepare notes.
  • For each subject of your particular branch, you must identify the standard books and read them thoroughly.
  • You must prepare your theoretical concepts along with numerical problems.
  • After reading each topic, make sure that you solve numerical problems based on them. It will make your concept stronger.
  • Along with reading, make short notes of each subject parallelly.
  • Classroom notes are some common sources available to cover the GATE syllabus. These are handwritten notes of students who attended college classes or coaching classes.

Timeline For Preparation

It is recommended to plan your studies in a way that you can complete the syllabus at least two to three months before the GATE exam. Then only you can have time for effective Revision and Test Series. Plan those subjects first in which you are most comfortable / they carry high weightage in the examination.

Short Note Making

  • Studying the short notes made by you will help you in the revision of the whole syllabus thoroughly.
  • It will help you recall the things you have already studied during preparation and understand them better at the end time.
  • Make a list of important formulas and keep revising them in your free time.
  • It is required to memorize all the subjects thoroughly just before the GATE exam.
  • In these short notes, we need not write full sentences you can use diagrams, flow charts, arrows, etc. to make it short and crisp.

Revision

  1. It is very important before going for the examination as it helps to recall many things that might get skipped from your mind.
  2. Try to complete the maximum syllabus in time so that you will get enough time for revision.
  3. Keep a check on your performance by attending the mock tests. Also, try model papers.
  4. Do not start a new topic in the last stage of preparation.
  5. The revision plan helps in recalling the concepts during the examination.

Evaluate Yourself Before the GATE Exam

  1. Make sure at least two months is kept for exhaustive, thorough revision.
  2. Analyze the weaker points and work on those topics.
  3. Learn and use simple tricks and shortcuts for solving questions rather than adopting a lengthy approach.

Dedication & Consistency

  1. The important thing is that you should be consistent in your studies.
  2. During your preparation, you may end up losing interest in your studies at some point. But don’t give up always be motivated and dedicated to your study.

  1. The GATE Examination is not completely based on completing the syllabus for preparing for the exam. It is purely based upon understanding the concept of your core subject and focuses on the basic concepts of the subject.
  2. If you find any difficulty while preparing like taking much time like that just take a look at the syllabus and schedule everything in a proper way.
  3. Just you need to balance your Time, Speed, and Accuracy.
  4. You guys need to divide your preparation time according to the topics/sections you need to prepare for like aptitude, fundamentals, attitude, concentration level, etc.
  5. Always try to track your own performance and how you are prepared for the examination.
  6. A problem can be solved in lots of ways. Smart preparation always goes with the method by which you can find out the correct answer within less amount of time.
  7. It is advised to the candidates as they prepare for the board exam that the GATE need not do the same type of preparation instead you need to prepare topics with a sufficient amount of time duration.
  8. Whenever you are studying and preparing topics then you need to keep your own goal in your mind. Always try to keep your goal in mind and think about the goal of how you can achieve that.
  9. If in the last phase of your preparation you have any doubts regarding any previous topics then clear your doubts and then go for the preparation of the next topics.
  10. If you leave the books from the preparation and go only for revision. Once your revision process is over then evaluate yourself by attempting mock tests and previous year’s question papers.
