Choosing the Right School

Starting college is one of the most exciting stages of your life. Unfortunately, it can also be one of the most stressful. Not only are you trying to maintain good grades in high school but now you are also responsible for choosing a college and for completing the time consuming application process. For many high school students about to transition to college students, choosing a college is the most difficult step of the application process. Here are a few tips that will hopefully make your decision a little easier.

Try not to choose a college just because a best friend or love interest is attending. Your best friend in high school will probably not be your best friend in college. Although there are exceptions to this rule, you will likely grow apart from your friend. If you choose the same college as your girlfriend or boyfriend and the relationship does not work out, you are stuck at that school and it might not be the best school for you.

It can also be difficult deciding what size of college you want to attend. Some individuals cannot wait to attend a huge state school. Others worry that they would be lost in the crowd. Although you should take size into consideration, with effort you can fit into any college environment. Do not be afraid to get out of your comfort zone.

Remember that it takes some time to adjust to college life. If you do not immediately feel at home at your new school, that does not necessarily mean that you made the wrong choice. Try and meet as many people as possible, get involved in new activities, and give whatever school you chose a chance. College is what you make of it, so make the most out of your four years.
